The Giants don’t pick until late in Day 2"

The New York Giants were supposed to pick early on Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft — the 37th overall pick — but they packaged that along with the 132nd and 142nd overall picks in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks for the 30th overall pick and Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker. Now the Giants aren’t slated to pick on Day 2 until the 95th pick Youth Eli Manning Jerseys , one of the last selections of the third round. Before we get to Day 2, let’s take a look at the trade from late in the first round and how it might impact the Giants for the remainder of the draft. The terms of the trade were noted above — picks 37, 132, and 142 for 30. By Chase Stuart’s Approximate Value trade chart — a more modern and realistic value compared to the outdated Jimmy Johnson predecessor — the Giants gave up 18.1 AV in exchange for 12.9 AV — 140.3 percent of the 30th pick’s value.Because the Giants came into the draft with 12 picks, losing a fourth- and fifth-round pick doesn’t deplete the available draft capital, but it will factor into what the Giants do throughout Day 2.In Dave Gettleman’s pre-draft press conference, he did not appear thrilled with the idea of waiting 58 picks between 37 and 95 to make a pick. Now even though Gettleman has three first-round picks on the roster, it still would be surprising if he was content with waiting until the end of the third round to make his next selection. The Giants still have a third-round pick (95), a fourth-round pick (108), two fifth-round picks (143 and 171) Eli Manning Jerseys Stitched , a sixth-round pick (180), and two seventh-round picks (232 and 245). Gettleman could use those fourth- and fifth-round picks to possibly move back up into the third-round. By the AV chart, picks 108 and 171 are equal to the 80th overall pick. But remember, teams typically pay a premium to move up, so it’s unlikely the Giants would be able to get equal value of the 80th pick in that trade. At the most, the 95th and 108th picks are equivalent to the 45th overall pick so the Giants could potentially get into the middle of Round 2 without using 2020 draft picks — something they should be hesitant to do, especially since any trade up will no longer be for a quarterback. Here are the Giants’ remaining picks and the draft value chart if you want to try some trades out for yourself.Giants remaining pick valuePickAVPickAVsource: Football PerspectiveUpdated Big BoardChris and I released a two-axis Big Board earlier in the week and we’ll be keeping track of it throughout the draft. Here is the updated version with selected names crossed off and the Giants’ picks highlighted.Best players availableWithout the 37th pick, the Giants aren’t in range to take the best players available at the start of Day 2, but there are still a number of good prospects left on the board, including six players we graded as first-round picks:DK Metcalf Youth Odell Beckham Jerseys , WR, Ole MissHakeem Butler, WR, Iowa StateGreedy Williams, CB, LSUByron Murphy, CB, WashingtonChauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, FloridaNasir Adderley Odell Beckham Jerseys Stitched , S, DelawareWhenever the Giants pick again, EDGE is likely to be the targeted position after it wasn’t taken with any of the three first-round picks. We’ll see how the Giants play out the next two days after taking some big swings in Round 1. The reaction to the Giants’ decision to draft quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick has not been terribly positive in the New York/New Jersey area. Many of the detractors feel that General Manager Dave Gettleman should have taken edge rusher Josh Allen at No. 6 and then taken Jones at No. 17, which assumes that no one would have taken Jones before the Giants were on the clock for the second time in the first round. After the draft came to an end, Gettleman said that assumption was a faulty one.“I know for a fact there were two teams who would have taken [Jones] before 17 … It wasn’t easy for me to pass up Josh Allen. It was very very difficult. But I think that much of Daniel Jones and his future as an NFL QB,” Gettleman said, via Tom Rock of .Gettleman didn’t reveal how he knew or which teams were going to make Jones a first-round pick, but Washington took quarterback Dwayne Haskins at No. 15 and Jones could have been the player they preferred. Now that the pick is made, it doesn’t matter all that much whether there were two teams, five teams or no teams that were interested in Jones. What matters is whether he plays well enough to make Gettleman look smart for eschewing conventional wisdom and making Jones his choice at the top of the draft.
