Formatting is one of the key criteria for academic writing. Whenever you are about to develop any particular document, then it is absolutely imperative that you have a certain format in mind. The format covers a variety of aspects. The overall design of the document, the placement of the heading, the font used, and citations are all covered when you choose a certain citation style. Different fields have different styles attached to them.

Modern Language Association (MLA) format is the one that is mostly used by literature students. If you are designing any document such as a research paper or an essay, oftentimes you will need to add some images/figures and tables to it. This is one of the needs of the prompts and oftentimes adds essential weightage to the entire document. The better you explain everything, the better the others will understand it. So if you want to be an expert essay writer, you must know how to format these tables and figures. Let's have a look, shall we?

Formatting Tables and Figures in MLA

The use of figures and tables adds an extra dimension to the whole writing. It helps to add certain credibility to the entire writing and make it much more compelling as a result. It is important to have figures used of high quality and one that represents the data within the writing. Everything should be in line with every other thing to form a cohesive unit overall. Anything that is out of the palace can reduce the effectiveness of the actual content.

For figures, you must follow the following formatting in MLA
  • Firstly, the name of the figure, also the label appear in two distinct components. The first component is a reference that is used within the text such as “see fig. 1”. The other part appears below or close to the illustration and is simply referenced as “fig. 1”
  • The second part is the caption that follows the label of the figure. The caption should properly represent what is captured within the illustration. If it has an official name such as a renowned painting, then use that.
  • Add source information from where the course has been retrieved with the caption in the form of an in-text citation. If the source information is provided with the illustration, then there is really no need to also add it at the end of the document on the works cited page.

The second major component that we shall cover is the tables. Tables can contain alphabetical data or numerical information or even a mixture of both. It is often the most compelling part of the document and can provide details at a glance. If you ask me, I always do my essay for me with proper support from research and tables as well as illustration. You should always try to accommodate such details for added strength. Here are some rules that you need to follow.

  • Same as with the illustration, you must reference it within the text as “see table 1”. There is no need to capitalize the work table.
  • Add the table close to the content for which it has been provided.
  • Once you label the table while write my paper process, simply write the word Table followed by the numeral which represents its number. It is often an Arabic numeral used in MLA style.
  • Use the heading of the table i.e. the label as well as the table itself flush-left to the margin.
  • Below the table, you can add the caption and that too can be done through the captioned case provided by word processors.
  • In order to have the source credited, use the line below the title and add the keyword “source”, follow it up with the mark of the colon, and then add the description of the source. It can be in the form of an in-text citation. The “works cited” page can contain the bibliographical details of the table at the very end.

An important thing that you should remember is that the tables and the figures can also appear in their respective appendix at the end of the document as well.

Now you have a clear idea of what to expect when you try to add tables and figures into your content within the paper. If you have any more confusion, then a specialist essay writing service can guide you even further. They have experts working on such tasks daily. • Times New Roman is the main font that is used while Arial is also preferred many times
  • The font size must be 11 or 12 points depending upon the requirements and the preference of the writer.
  • Use the heading styles as per the MLA format to ensure the paper is divided into proper sections.

○ The first level of the heading must be bold and flush left.

○ The following level is also flush left but is italicized and not emboldened.

○ The third level must be written in the middle with an emboldened font.

○ The next level must also be in the middle with italicized font only without the emboldened font.
  • Use the “works cited” page to ensure that the bibliographical information is added to the MLA format

As you can see, once you learn all the rules, there really is not much of a hassle.
